Losing Our Connection

Connection Connections

Have you ever compared Christianity to an Internet connection? That may sound like an odd pairing but there is a connection. My Internet connection kept dropping this morning and, needless to say, I was a bit frustrated. As I was lamenting the fact that I could not stay connected to the network I realized that there was a spiritual parallel. My thoughts turned to the words of Jesus recorded in John 15:

“Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15 - NRSV

Connection Conclusions

  • We need to remain connected to the network if want to accomplish anything online.
We need to remain connected to Jesus if we want to accomplish anything spiritually.
  • Without a good Internet connection we can do nothing online.
Without a good connection to Jesus we can do nothing spiritually.
  • It is not possible to browse the Internet without being connected to the network.
It is not possible to live the spiritual life without being connected to the Head.

Connection Reflections

  • Christianity is no more possible without a good connection to Jesus than surfing the Internet is possible without a good network connection.
  • I wonder if we are as upset and bothered when our connection to Jesus is disrupted as we are when our connection to the Internet is disrupted.
  • I wonder how many of us go through life with a spiritual connection equivalent to dial-up.
