Occasionally someone passes along a piece of advice that is just timeless. I came across this nugget from Richard Baxter, the 17th century Puritan minister.
“Choose not that in which you may be most rich or honorable in the world; but that in which you may do most good, and best escape sinning.” (Richard Baxter)
You could do a lot worse than to share that counsel with any graduates you know. This is sound advice to anyone considering vocational decisions.
I am amazed at how many parents raise their kids in church for 18 years and then pressure them to pursue a career based solely on the “rich or honorable” factors. Why not encourage our graduates to discover and pursue what God has placed in their hearts?
