“A noble wife is the crown of her husband…” (Proverbs 12.4).
What is meant by a “noble wife”? The translators of the NET Bible offer the following commentary:
She is a “virtuous woman” (cf. KJV), a capable woman of noble character. She is contrasted with the woman who is disgraceful (”one who causes shame”) or who lowers his standing in the community.
We all have seen women who routinely disgrace or shame their husbands. Several come to mind as I write this… (But this is not limited to women - there are plenty of men who disgrace and shame their wives as well.) The Scriptures tell us that the man who is blessed with a noble, virtuous wife is very blessed indeed. His noble wife is his crown, the cause of much honor and glory.
In fact, that man is wealthy because of his noble wife.
Who can find a wife of noble character? For her value is far more than rubies. (Proverbs 31.10)
I have such a wife. Her strength, character, compassion, generosity and grace continue to inspire me. Terri is an excellent and noble woman and this is my small way of publicly acknowledging my appreciation of the wonderful gift that she is to me.
