Christianity is incarnational. One of the unique claims that Christianity makes is that God became man and walked among us. “The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1.14 WEB)
One of the exciting things about the emerging church movement is the renewed emphasis on missional living. Too often we forget that to be a Christian means to be called into something greater than ourselves. We are called to live out the gospel of Jesus.
Christmas should serve to remind us of this truth. God became a man and walked among us. Those of us who have Christ living in us are called to walk among others and live out the gospel. Forgetting our missional calling is effectively denying the gospel with our lives.
Christmas is nothing if not a reminder of the incarnational nature of our faith.
