I have compiled a list of common Christmas mistakes. This list is no doubt incomplete and suggestions and additions are welcome. This list represents some of my observations on the Christmas season. My observations of some common Christmas mistakes are (in no particular order):
- Forgetting that it is more blessed to give than to receive
- Forgetting whose birth we are supposed to be celebrating
- Forgetting to invite the guest of honor to the party
- Becoming so busy worshiping our family that we forget to worship God
- Becoming so busy worshiping the economy (with our spending) that we forget to worship God (with out offering)
- Becoming so busy with things at home that we forget Him who left his home
- Becoming so busy emptying our bank accounts that we forget Him who emptied himself
- Forgetting that the Christ child born in a stable will return as a mighty, warrior king to judge the living and the dead and to take his rightful place on the throne
- Denying the Gospel with our lives while we pretend to celebrate the incarnation
- Forgetting the purpose of the incarnation (and therefore the Christmas celebration) - Jesus came so that he could offer himself up as a sacrifice for us
- Celebrating Christmas while forgetting that our faith demands to be lived out (read James); that is, true Christianity is incarnational in nature as we live out the Gospel among those around us
