Why I Am Conservative

This is the counterpart to yesterday’s post, Why I Am liberal. I was raised conservative and that is a tradition I carry on despite coming to find certain agreement with my more liberal brothers and sisters.

I am conservative but not a Conservative. What I mean is that my worldview leans conservative but I do not officially identify with the Conservative political party (or any political party for that matter).

I am a conservative because I believe:

  • the Scriptures are God’s word - an accurate revelation of what God wanted us to know
  • without exception we are born in sin and are in need of personal salvation
  • salvation is found in no other name than Jesus Christ

Conservative Christians have historically placed a high emphasis on these things and that is a tradition I carry on. I do not, however, endorse any agenda unquestioningly. Conservatives and liberals alike bring valid ideas to the discussion if they are just willing to hear each other.
